{“Please use this form to suggest new functionality you would like to see added to SolidWorks products.”}

The thought accrued to me that I should start a thread for posting Enhancement requests. The idea is that ideas can be posted, discussed and improved upon. If these Enhancement requests are summated by a multitude of users they will have a greater chance of being incorporated by SolidWorks.

Please submit your request here so we can submit them too. If you have subscription support the URL is : www.solidworks.com/pages/se...ents.html

  • Listening to customer input: job#1 at SolidWorks

    Tue, February 28, 2006 - 1:16 PM

    From “SolidWorks Express” 2005

SolidWorks® 2005 software includes nearly 250 enhancement requests—many driven by customer feedback. “Ninety-percent of the enhancements we implement are driven by our end users,” says Gopal Shenoy, Manager of Product Definition at SolidWorks. All customer feedback is considered as a whole and taken into account for product planning of the next release. “We take a very pragmatic look at the issues,” says Shenoy. “And we visit customers to understand their design processes and figure out what enhancements they’d like to see in the future.”

Shenoy also points out that determining which enhancement priorities are determined based on the practical value for the entire user community. If the issue is likely to effect multiple users, even if the enhancement does not fall into the top request category, it will still be addressed, just because it makes practical sense. “A one-man shop can submit an enhancement request and it is treated with the same value as any another request,” says Shenoy. “It all boils down to making SolidWorks users as a whole more productive—that is the sole criteria.”

  • Problem: "Rivets in the fastener library"

    Tue, February 28, 2006 - 1:18 PM
    Solution Ideas:

"Adding rivets to the fastener library would greatly increase productivity by allowing for interference detection between a popped rivet and any surrounding components, as well as add the ability for a qty of rivets to be automatically inserted with the B.O.M."

This is from Jason. Thanks Jason.
  • Enhancement request or Software bug?

The tool bar Icon for “Revision Symbol” can only be used if a “Revision Table” has been added to the same sheet you want to add the “Revision Symbol”. This is the same for “Insert”/”Annotations” pull down menu. The option for “Revision Symbol” is blacked out. It would be nice if the “Revision Symbol” option was available on any sheet of a drawing as long as a “Revision Table” has been added somewhere on any sheet of the drawing.
  • Enhancement Requests: Show / Hide All Types Selections
It would be helpful if all of these options could be selected and unselected at the same time. It takes to long to make these selections individually and wait for the system to rebuild after each selection. Please place them in a pop up or similar option to allow for a more fluid selection process.

*Referring to: Hide All Types Hides the following items in the current document:
    Planes Sketches
Axes 3D Sketch (including Sketch Planes and Dim)
Temporary Axes All Annotations (including model dim & feature dim)
    Origins Points
    Coordinate Systems Routing Points
    Curves Parting Lines
*To hide all types in the current document: Click View, Hide All Types.
*NOTES: After you select Hide All Types, you cannot show any hidden items until you clear Hide All Types. You can also hide individual items in the list above by selecting the item in the View menu.
  • Fix Vs. Floating parts and errors in the feature tree.

It would be nice to see fewer pointless errors in the feature tree. If a part or sub-assembly in the feature tree is switched to fixed status, all the mate errors caused by this new status should be ignored. This are not conventional errors. The parts are fixed and the errors shown are in a sense artificial and should be ignored/hidden/suppressed automatically or at least shown in a new color like blue. Indication that they are caused by fixed body.

By the same token, broken mates caused by suppressed parts or suppressed features should also be considered suppressed or ignored or at least shown in a new color like brown. (something). Indication that they are caused by missing part or feature. (caused by a change in part configuration)

These “error” or new status should not flow upward to any new assemblies or drawings that they are used in. Only errors caused by true conflicting mate errors should be shown as errors and only true errors should flow up to the next level.
