I am a 20 year old engineering student and I use solidworks both at work and at home. I have been playing around with photoworks and am just looking for some feedback (good or bad) on some of the work I have done so far.

Re: Looking For Some Feedback
Thu, August 14, 2008 - 8:45 AMoverall, it's a great start.
since most of them are renders, my comments will be on the the technical use:
most of these look like they should me made of metal. with that said, they all have a very plastic texture. i know most of the metal textures in photoworks suck, but you should be able to tweak them individually. [i haven't used the student version for renders, so i'm not sure] try playing with individual settings, especially reflectivity and transparency
on the CD texture map - unless your goal was to have a big pattern for fun, you'll get more realistic results by adjusting the size of the map.. also try playing with the angle it's used at. sometimes having it aligned perfectly makes it look too fake
also - try playing with the perspective tool. you can get some really cool effects just by adding a really dramatic perspective to the shot.
beyond that, the models are certainly nice enough. the next step, if you really want to make your renders "pop" is to drop them in photoshop/the gIMP for a minute, and give them a little touch up. most raytracing programs are a little too perfect, and give everything a hyper-real appearance. -
